Dr Tan Chun Hai is a general surgeon practising in Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.

His clinical expertise includes the use of keyhole or minimally invasive surgery in bariatric and metabolic surgery, stomach cancer surgery, gallbladder stones, abdominal and groin hernia, and appendicitis.

He is also experienced in cancer screening and in the treatment of abdominal pain and bloating, gastric pain, reflux heartburn symptoms, constipation, abnormal loss of weight, skin lumps and abscesses.

Dr Tan completed his fellowship in bariatric and metabolic surgery in the Asia-Pacific Endoscopic Bariatric Surgical Centre in Taiwan, and later a second fellowship in laparoscopic stomach cancer surgery in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, South Korea.

He is currently the president for the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore.

Prior to joining Gleneagles Hospital, Dr Tan was the founder and clinical director for the Integrated Care for Obesity and Diabetes clinic in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). He was also one of the earliest member of the emergency and acute care surgery team in KTPH.

Besides his passion for clinical practice, Dr Tan firmly believes in teaching future generations of doctors and medical students. He was a senior clinical lecturer in NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and a core faculty for NTU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He was also a teaching core faculty in the National Healthcare General Surgery Residency training programme. He has also conducted multiple endoscopic and laparoscopic workshops for local and overseas surgical trainees and surgeons.

Dr Tan is actively involved in research and has multiple publications in peer-reviewed international journals, he also has been invited to give talks in international and regional conferences. In 2018, he won the Young International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Award for his research in bariatric and metabolic surgery for type 2 diabetes.
