Dr Lim Lee Guan is a gastroenterologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

His clinical interests are in general gastroenterology and liver diseases, and advanced endoscopy for the screening, diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases. These include tumours and pre-cancerous conditions of the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas and liver/biliary systems, and endoscopic ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy and injection.

Prior to joining private practice, he was a gastroenterologist at a private hospital and the National University Hospital (NUH). He is currently a visiting gastroenterologist at Ng Teng Fong Hospital.

Dr Lim obtained his bachelor degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He subsequently obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), underwent advanced specialist training in gastroenterology at NUH, and obtained the fellowships of Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) and Academy of Medicine.

After obtaining the Health Manpower Development Plan award, Dr Lim did 1-year specialised training in advanced endoscopic imaging including endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration and biopsy/injection in Germany at Universitätsmedizin der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz and Technical University of Munich University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. He later received a scholarship for a clinical attachment at Kyushu University Hospital, Japan, which focused on advanced endoscopic imaging for cancer detection and endoscopic management of gastrointestinal pre-cancer and cancer.

He has given presentations at international meetings and has been invited as faculty for gastroenterology courses and endoscopy workshops. He has received research grants and awards, including the Young Investigator Award at the Asia Pacific Digestive Week and Poster of Distinction at Digestive Disease Week in USA.

He has also written chapters for numerous medical books and published in top international journals, and is on the editorial board of the BMJ Open Gastroenterology, published by the British Medical Journal in partnership with the British Society of Gastroenterology.

He previously served as an executive committee member of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore and committee member of the National Foundation For Digestive Diseases.

Dr Lim was an assistant professor at NUS, and consultant gastroenterologist at NUH, where he was clinical director, postgraduate training director, and programme director of the ACGME-I gastroenterology fellowship programme. He is a recipient of the Excellent Service Award (Star) and Excellent Service Award (Gold), as well as the National Healthcare Group Excellence Award for Teaching.

He has been selected and sponsored by the World Gastroenterology Organisation for the Train-the-Trainers Workshop in Porto, Portugal. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
